Vendredi (28 août), on continue un peu plus au nord et au Canada pour retrouver Cam et Geneviève à Nelson, en Colombie Britannique… puisqu’on n’ira pas l’hiver prochain, on y passe donc cet été !
Friday (August 28), we keep going north towards Canada to meet Cam and Geneviève in Nelson, British Columbia… as we’re not going to go next winter, we stop by this summer!
Il fait bien chaud quand on arrive et on commence par aller piquer une tête dans le lac pour se rafraîchir… avant de finaliser les plans du week-end !
Samedi (29 août), on part avec Cam et Nelson pour une session trad (terrain d’aventure) couennes, histoire de se préparer pour la grande voie du lendemain. Direction Castlegar à Kinnaird Bluffs pour ce qu’on appellera la grimpe sanglier à la fin de la journée ;-) La grimpe est belle (mais pas donnée pour certaines cotations), mais l’approche, malgré (et aussi à cause) qu’on soit juste au dessus d’un lotissement, est intéressante…
It is quite hot when we arrive and we start with a swim in the lake to cool down… before finalizing the plans for the weekend!
Saturday (August 29), we go with Cam and Nelson for some short trad climbs, to get ready for the next day’s multi-pitch route. We head to Castlegar in Kinnaird Bluffs for some climbs on the wall as well as in the bush ;-) The climbing is good (even if some grades are tough), but the scrambling (groveling would say Greg Child) to get there is quite interesting…

Après un bon barbecue le soir en rentrant, on se lève tôt dimanche (30 août) pour aller faire le meilleur du coin : Mt Gimli, dans les Valhallas, par la South Ridge. 8 longueurs entre 5.5 et 5.10a et un peu de scrambling à la fin sur du gneiss qui tiennent toutes leurs promesses ! On a aussi appris grâce à Cam et Nelson à coincer avec nos mains « tapées » (ie protégées avec du strap, on s’est rien cassé !!), utile notamment pour la 1ère longueur…
After a good BBQ the evening back in Nelson, we wake up early on Sunday (August 30) to do the best in the area: Mt Gimli, in the Valhallas, via the South Ridge. 8 awesome pitches between 5.5 and 5.10a and some scrambling at the end on gneiss! We also learned thanks to Cam and Nelson how to jam with our tapped hands, especially useful for the 1st pitch…

Lundi (31 aout), on en profite pour faire quelques courses, préparer la suite du voyage, et surtout aller au resto le soir ;-) Par contre on n’a pas pris de photos de Nelson, voilà donc une bonne occasion pour revenir bientôt !!
Monday (August 31), we take time to buy some stuff, prepare the next days of the trip and most of all go to the restaurant in the evening ;-) However, we did not take any pic from Nelson, that’s a very good reason to come back soon!!
